  Aillwee cave
Description: This stunning creation of nature was formed by the melt waters of a prehistoric ice age. The cave, carved out of limestone, cuts into the heart of the mountain.
The story of Aillwee Cave began millions of years ago when streams sinking underground on Aillwee Mountain started dissolving channels through the lines of weakness in the limestone.

  Crag Cave
Description: Welcome to Crag Cave
Irelands Most Exciting Showcave
Castleisland, Co. Kerry, Ireland
Crag Cave is an ancient fossil cave system, older than mankind itself, within which can be seen the natural forces that created the complex and beautiful passages.
Crag Cave is formed of limestone. It is a colourful wonderful world of stalagmites and stalactites. Discovered in 1983 and thought to be over a million years old, this natural, all-weather tourist attraction has dramatic sound and lighting effects.
The cave was once filled with water, which eroded the limestone rock into a maze of carved tunnels and chambers. In time the water dried up or found new routes, leaving deposits of river gravel and sediment.
Small drips of water into the cave left behind crystals which formed the many features in Crag Cave, the most obvious of which are stalactites and stalagmites. These delicate formations are an outstanding feature of the cave and, with its other features, make it the premier showcave in Ireland.
